El Guero Ingles, a British hiker, lost his way while trekking the famous Santa Cruz Trail in Huaraz, Peru. He found himself separated from his group at an altitude of 15,000 feet in the Peruvian mountains, surrounded by dense snow and fog. Just when he felt hopeless, a stray dog appeared and guided him back to safety.

The incident occurred in October 2022 and the hiker last week shared a heartwarming video of his encounter with the dog who guided him. In the viral video, Ignles shows the dog approaching him. Seemingly, the dog sensed the hiker was lost and further navigated narrow paths. Towards the end of the video, the dog can be seen standing near the sign board for the Punta Unión pass and waiting for Ignles.

Sharing the video, an X handle @Rainmaker1973 wrote, “A British tourist lost 15,000ft up in Peruvian mountains describes how a stray dog ‘appeared from the fog’ and led him to his destination.”

The video garnered seven million views, attracting a sea of reactions. Many users also shared their hiking stories. “Happened to me in Russia on a hike. Heavy fog came in. I passed a weather station on my way up to the summit, and a dog followed from there. Weather worsened, thunder claps very close, visibility reduced to metres, and the dog led me back down the mountain. It was remarkable,” a user wrote. “Just proves that even in the wild, you can find loyalty in the unlikeliest places,” another user commented.

“I swear there’s these random animals scattered across the world that were tasked by God to do things like this,” a third user reacted.

Speaking to La Stampa, an Italian news outlet, Ignles shared that the incident happened on day two of his trek. He lost all his hope of reuniting with his group, but the dog led him straight to a familiar path. The dog remained with Ignles at the summit, met another dog at the next summit, and disappeared one night, the report said.
