A high school in Nebraska, USA has tried to break the Guinness World Record for the title of ‘Largest water balloon toss (single venue)’.
In their social media posts the Omaha Central High School claimed that more than 1,000 students took part in the attempt that was held in the school’s football field. The students got the opportunity to participate in the balloon toss event “by meeting academic, attendance and behaviour goals”.
As per KETV, a local TV station in Nebraska, the students were arranged to participate in pairs and played a round of water balloon toss that involved the participants taking a step back after each successful throw until the water balloon burst. Reportedly, it took 700 balloons to attempt the record.
The Facebook page of Omaha Public Schools shared a video that captured the exciting event. In the video, Jodi Dierks, assistant principal of the school, spoke about the record attempt and said that the whole community is excited to be part of the history-making event. She said that to be “part of the Guinness World Records book, which has been around since the 1950s, feels remarkable.”
Commenting on this video, a Facebook user wrote: “Way to go! Proud to serve on the Omaha Central High Alumni Association!! I serve for these kids!! So proud of all of them!” Another person said, “What FUN!”
The title of the ‘largest water balloon toss (single venue)’ was previously held by 902 participants of the Deerfield Academy (USA) in Massachusetts from September 14, 2014.
