Animation technology may have moved great steps ahead from stop motion videos, but sometimes old tricks give the best results. A short video made by Clifford Beddy, a stop motion animation artist, recently went viral on Instagram thanks to its cosy vibes.
The video was sponsored by the luxury British clothing brand Burberry. Beddy used wool and felt sheeting to make the video that featured “some of the check patterns and products” from Burberry’s new collection.
The short clip gathered over 2.4 million likes on Instagram. An Instagram user commented, “People don’t understand the work behind stop motion animation.. hats off 😍🔥👏”.
Stop motion animation is a filmmaking technique in which small changes are physically created in a set-up and then photographed in individual frames. The artist then puts these frames back to back, which gives a seamless effect.
In a follow-up video, Beddy showed the behind-the-scenes process of his viral clip. He explained that the Burberry ad took weeks to create as “there were many sets & objects to make and felting takes a long time!”
Beddy also thanked his wife, whose hands are shown in the video, and wrote, “My wife also worked hard! She had to hold her hand in the shot for hours while I animated steam & fire. In the first 2 scenes, the left hand and right hand were animated separately, because the tripod was in the way. We also did multiple takes on each scene to get the best version.”
“It’s unbelievable how much time and effort and dedication goes into these super cool little videos,” an Instagram user wrote.
