The AirPods Max in green. (Image: Apple) Apple is reportedly working on a new version of its flagship over-the-head headphone — AirPods Max 2 with a USB-C port instead of lightning to make them compliant with European Commission regulations. The latest report from Bloomberg suggests that the AirPods Max 2 might miss out on the new H2 chip, which powers the 2nd Gen AirPods Pro with USB-C.
Besides the new charging port that will be in line with the latest iPhones, Apple is also expected to introduce new colour options, besides that, it is considered to be a minor update, with very minor cosmetic changes.
If AirPods Max 2 is indeed based on the dated H1 chip. it will miss out on the new features such as adaptive audio, conversational awareness, personalised volume, and enhanced Siri experience, which are powered by the H2 chip.
Besides, the H2 chip on the new AirPods Max also enables Apple to deliver lossless HD audio with the upcoming Vision Pro with its high-speed 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. With just the H1 chip on the AirPods Max, it will also miss out on HD lossless audio support.
While the AirPods Max became a popular headphone amongst Apple enthusiasts for its premium design and audio quality, people did criticise the carry case, which wasn’t good at protecting the device. With the new AirPods Max, the company could introduce a redesigned carry case.
The original AirPods Max was launched for Rs 59,900, which still retails for the same price. The successor to the same is also expected to carry a similar price tag, making it a lot more expensive than other prominent high-end noise-cancellation headphones from Sony and Bose.
