Parliament Winter Session Today Live Updates: Raising concerns in the Lok Sabha, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said, “I want to raise a very important issue where one state in India has become a symbol of anti-Sanatan Dharma. Their ministers are making statements against Sanatan Dharma… People were forced to approach the court to reach the temple. Referring to the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court’s remarks on officials “deliberately ignoring” its order on lighting the Karthigai Deepam lamp at Madurai’s Thiruparankundram temple, he questioned “why Hindus were lathi-charged and prevented from entering the premises.”

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members paid homage to former Speaker and Union minister Shivraj Patil and observed solemn tributes to those killed in the 2001 Parliament attack. Born on October 12, 1935, Patil began his political journey as the president of the Latur municipality between 1966 and 1970, and was subsequently elected as an MLA for two terms. He held key posts in the Maharashtra Assembly, including those of deputy speaker and speaker, between 1977 and 1979. He then went on to win the Latur Lok Sabha seat seven times and became the 10th speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996. He lost to BJP’s Rupatai Patil Nilangekar in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

What happened in the Lok Sabha over ‘SIR’? A combative Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday hit out at the opposition in the Lok Sabha for its campaign against SIR, saying the issue has been raked up as it can no longer win elections by “corrupt practices”, and asserted that the reason for Congress’ defeat in polls was its leadership, not EVMs or “vote chori”. In his intervention in the debate on election reforms, Shah alleged that the opposition wanted to keep the “avaidh ghuspathiye’ (illegal immigrants) in the voter list and hence the SIR issue was raised, but the Narendra Modi government’s policy is clear — detect all aliens, delete their names from the voters list and throw them out of the country.

It is shameful that this government, instead of addressing the challenges people are facing - the toxic air they're breathing - is changing the way the air quality index is mapped. Again, this shows that this is a government that believes in changing names, not addressing challenges. Every time they face any problem or come under fire, they try to divert it elsewhere.
