“AI is not just deep learning or generative learning, it is so much more,” said Alexis Crowell, vice president and CTO of Asia pacific and Japan, Intel. At Intel ConnectiON 2023, held in Bengaluru on Wednesday, the silicon behemoth showcased various real-world products and solutions powered by artificial intelligence.

During the keynote, the company announced that it has collaborated with Cochin University of Science and Technology to use generative AI in cancer screening, which has resulted in 98 per cent accuracy in detecting cancer.

“Intel looks at artificial intelligence as a tool, which has to underpin all of these businesses and societal problems that we face on an everyday basis. Approach, budget, chip, and system are the ABCs of AI. There is no single approach and there are a lot of different ways of bringing AI in,” the CTO said.

At the venue, the company demonstrated several real-world use cases of generative AI powered by various Intel solutions. The company showed how a laptop powered by the next-generation Intel processor can convert a 2D video into 3D video in real-time. Similarly, Intel also showcased how AI and VR technologies can be paired to offer a more immersive shopping experience.

Another interesting offering at the Intel ConnectiON 2023 was an AI solution for a supermarket, which can automatically detect an item and generate a bill in just 100ms, which when manually done would take five to 10 seconds that uses Intel automated checkout Posiflex, which is powered by a camera and can run on-device without requiring cloud or edge computing, on a mid-range computer.

During the keynote, Intel’s head highlighted that, AI needs to be flexible to work and Intel is enabling this by offering various products, starting from PC solutions to the server-grade AI processors to achieve efficient AI experiences across the use cases.

Intel is also bullish on India with respect to “Siliconomy,” an economy enabled by the magic of silicons and semiconductors.

Steve Long, corporate vice president, and general manager — Asia Pacific and Japan, Intel stated, “We (Intel) don’t have plans to manufacture advanced semiconductor nodes in India at this time, but we are playing a major role in advancing India towards that.”

Intel also believes Moore’s law is still well and alive, and the company will continue to push the envelope, where it is on the right track to complete its pipeline of 5 nodes in 4 years. On top of that, the company also teased the future roadmap and claims to regain performance-per-watt leadership by 2025.
