* Let a fresh wind blow by Sanjay G. Dhande (IE,June7) makes sense. What has been suggested will benefit students because they will be able to explore varied subjects,after which they can take the direction that most suits them. Education will become student-centric rather than teacher-centric. I wish our political class would encourage other institutions to also follow this multidisciplinary mode of education.

* The facultys opposition to the FYUP is not due to practical difficulties,it is because they had absolutely no voice in the matter. Nobody knows who the 2,500 stakeholders the university claims to have consulted are,either. If the semester system is anything to go by,the academic rigour of courses is likely to be diluted. This change is coming two years after the semester system was first implemented. Teachers havent had time to settle into that system. Now that they know they wont be teaching this syllabus for more than two years (only two batches remain under the three-year semester system) they have no reason to work overly hard in settling into this system.

* THIS refers to Rupee battered by prospects for stronger dollar,high CAD (IE,June 7). The rupees slide against the dollar is a cause for concern,as Indias import bill,which includes crude oil,will go up considerably,putting pressure on inflation. Nevertheless,the government should resist the temptation to interfere in the currency markets. Instead,it should take immediate steps to encourage exports,which will boost the foreign exchange reserves of the country.

* I WELCOME the cabinets green signal to the real estate bill (Landing an opportunity,IE,June 7). I feel that the chances of being cheated and defrauded through property dealings will be fewer with its passage. Tenants will be less able to harass landlords. Rather than keeping properties locked up for years in fear of losing,owners can now realise handsome returns in the form of rent without any risk.

Wait and watch
* THIS refers to Pakistan possibilities (IE,June 6). With Nawaz Sharif taking oath for an unprecedented third time,there are huge expectations from him in India and Pakistan. These are still early days to predict the future course of our relationship with Pakistan. Though he has made all the right noises so far,and chances are he might walk the talk as well,we still need to be cautious. His first task is anything but easy,as he needs to counter the Taliban and the ISI. His working relationship with the army is also yet to be seen.
