Vishwakarma Institute of Management VIM conducted a full-day seminar on February 14 on Build and Distribute 8211; The Winner Strategies for Tough Times8217; at the VIT Auditorium. Chief guest R B Khadilkar, vice president ERC Telco, highlighted the customer-oriented approach that has to go behind vehicle design, besides the importance of motivating people in making any product technically and commercially successful.

Suresh Abhyankar and Shrikant Bhojkar conducted the two technical sessions which were attended by over 150 delegates from trade, business and management institutes.

The speakers included Nitin Bavankule of Whirlpool, Vinay Kulkarni of Philips, S B Narke of Pandit Automotive, Sham Jethale of J D Brothers, Pradeep Chordia of Chordia Food Products, Rajeev Kotwal of Iatros Pharmaceuticals, Gautam Pherwani formerly of Sanvik Asia and Ramesh Kodialbail of Poona Bottling Company.

The aim of this seminar was to bring various academicians and distributors together to have insights into the current practices.

Rumble 8217;99
The Rotaract Club of Poona South has organised a fashion show competition and a best boutique contest 8211; Rumble 8217;99 8211; on February 19 at Nehru Memorial Hall, 5.30 pm onwards. The proceeds of this event will go towards charity work taken up by the club like Pulse Polio and eye camps.

Expert guidance
Study Cicle 8217;99 of Modern College, Ganeshkhind, commerce department was inaugurated on February 5, 1999. Dr Santosh Dastane, controller of examinations, University of Pune, was the chief guest, while V A Joshi, former lecturer of BMCC, was the guest of honour. Professor Vijaya Kulkarni organised the entire programme.

The objective of this activity is to give additional inputs to students along with a combination of academics and practical application. Experts will be invited to give guidance to second and third year BCom students of the college.

Best NCC cadet
Kavita Vasant of SNDT College of Commerce, Pune was awarded the university8217;s Overall best cadet of the year 19998242;. The National Cadel Corps NCC camp, which concluded on February 10, was organised by the SNDT University, Mumbai, in which cadets from all the centres of SNDT participated. Four NCC girls from SNDT Pune had attended this camp. The camp had lot of competitions like firing, written test, drill display and elocution, amongst which Kavita bagged the first prize in firing.

Impressionistic view
What better way to learn about art and music than from the connoisseurs themselves! The seminar organised by Ranade Institute of Foreign Languages on Saturday, February 13, proved to be a perfect getaway from one8217;s tedious routine. Artist Ravi Paranjpe presided over the morning session and gave an enlightening talk about the era of Impressionism, explaining why it holds such an important place in art history. An audio-visual presentation of the beautiful Impressionist works was the highlight of the sitting, accompanied by Paranjpe8217;s lucid commentary. Another specialist from his field, Kedar Awati, held forth on western classical music8217; in the afternoon. Awati8217;s excellent talk was interposed with taped versions of classical pieces, reconstructing the period very vividly. Kudos to Ranade for organising such an informative lecture.
