Two Indian websites have been named in the list of the world’s most promising Internet start-ups outside the US by a Fortune group magazine. The portals which find a mention in the latest issue of Business 2.0 magazine are the Mumbai-based burrp.com and khichdee.com. While the former offers reviews of locations and recommendations of different food and night life joints in six Indian cities, the latter brings online and offline classified advertisements on a single platform.The 31 portals named in the magazine include web video portal Joost, Paris-based ‘Trivop’, which allow travellers to virtually visit the hotels online before they book, and online TV-viewing outfit Babelgum of Italy.Burrp.com was launched in August 2006 to guide the netizens about different food joints in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. It has plans to include Pune, Ahmedabad and Goa as well.After recording a traffic of 80,000 visitors a day, it wants to offer consumer listings in television, movies and music. With a growing user-base, burrp is also gearing up for technology upgradation. The portal provides the users with hyper-local alerts via SMS whenever a new restaurant or bar opens, closes or is reviewed by any critic.Khichdee.com was launched year back by the M K Sanghi Group. It caters the netizens in different segments such as automobiles, matrimonial, employment, real estate and housing, apparel and accessories, health and fitness, sports, books, jewellery and consumer goods and appliances among others. Khichdee brings all the classifieds, published online or offline, to one place. On an average 4,500 new ads are being posted on this website a day.
