Woman attempts suicide by setting herself afire

CHANDIGARH, May 5: A woman reportedly attempted suicide by setting herself afire after pouring kerosene on herself at her residence in Khuda Lahora village here last night. She has been admitted to the PGI with 35 per cent burns.

Police sources said in her statement to the police, Kanta Devi alleged that her husband, Ramesh Kumar, incited her to commit suicide. She said that he beat her everyday after getting drunk.

The police have registered a case against the husband for alleged abetment of suicide. However, no arrests have been made so far.
