Out of the 79 colleges in DU, 51 colleges including 10 evening colleges had participated in the polling.

The number of students who appeared for the elections were close to 26,000.

Last year, the percentage of voters was 43 per cent.

Low turnouts were witnessed in colleges like Swami Shraddhanand College where 35 per cent students voted and in Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College where 25 per cent cast votes.

Hindu College had one of the biggest turnouts with 47.5 per cent; 950 of the total 2100 students voted in the college.

Nupur Sharma, the new President received 10,345 votes, the highest votes received by a single candidate in the election.

Sonia Sapra, the presidential candidate of NSUI who got 8,606 votes, lost by 1,739 votes.

For the post of vice president, NSUI candidate Manohar Naagar received 8,804, beating Vasu Rukhar of ABVP by 848 votes.

For the post of secretary, Amit Choudhary of NSUI beat ABVP candidate Anupriya Yadav by 611 votes. He had received 9,381 votes.

For the post of joint secretary, Ashish Gahlot of NSUI got 10,178 beating ABVP candidate Mukesh Shukla by 3,830 votes.

Among the smaller parties, AISA, the ruling party in JNU, fared better than the rest by garnering 1,199, 3,345 and 1,164 votes for the post of president, vice president and secretary respectively.

Lesser known party Bahujan Student Union threw in a surprise with its Presidential candidate Abhishek Kumar getting 1,757 votes.

His is the highest after NSUI and ABVP.
