PUNE, Oct 2: The nine-day tour to Germany by elected office-bearers of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC including Mayor Hanumant Bhosale has seemingly taught them a lesson or two in how to keep tabs on civic expenses.

Bhosale, who was accompanied by standing committee chairman Suryakant Thorat, Congress party leader Nana Shitole and corporator Shreerang Barne, returned here after their tour of Bremen city. The foreign tour was mired in controversy as the State Government had not given its approval to the tour.

While no detailed information was forthcoming about the tour as the details were to be announced at a formal press meet, an office-bearer who did not wish to be identified said they were much impressed by the measurestaken by the administrators in Bremen for proper use of public revenue.

8220;Civic projects are completed in time, so the actual expenses incurred match with the budgetary estimates. Work at major projects such as effluent treatment plants and generation of biogas from solid waste has been computerised, so any faults in the system are detected within a very short period. Little manual labour is involved in maintenance of the projects,8221; he said.

Elected office-bearers do not make use of official cars. Instead, they use bicylces to reach their offices. The traffic is also very disciplined, he said. He said after inspecting the projects they were convinced that their maintenance work was managed better with the involvement of social organisations.
