UP CM Mayawati today denied that the World Bank Country Director Edwin R. Lim had sent a letter to the state chief secretary D.S. Bagga warning that the bank may withdraw its loans and halt further funding if frequent administrative reshufflings weren’t stopped.
She informed worried Opposition members in the Assembly that some project coordinators were transferred on recommendation of a bank team which called on her shortly after she took over as Chief Minister on May 3.
She clarified that it was the bank team which had offered aid for one of her dream projects, including the Rs 5000-crore Ambedkar Gram Yojna, to develop 10,000 villages. The bank had offered, through the Centre, to fund the project but so far no aid had been received, she said. Earlier, the criteria for selecting villages for the Yojna was that 50 pc of inhabitants should be 50 pc SC and STs. But this time, 27 villages from the 403 Assembly seats had been selected, she said.
