Wont destabilise Centre: BJP

BJP president Rajnath Singh ruled out Tuesday the possibility of an early general election, saying his party was not in favour of destabilising the UPA government.

BJP president Rajnath Singh ruled out Tuesday the possibility of an early general election, saying his party was not in favour of destabilising the UPA government.

Ideally, the government should go at the earliest but BJP is not going to take the initiative to dislodge UPA. If it falls it will be due to differences between Congress and its allies, he said.

On his first visit to Mumbai after becoming the BJP president,Rajnath said,There is nothing to justify continuance of the UPA government which is responsible for rampant corruption and total failure in the economic sector.

He said the 6.7 current account deficit was an outcome of wrong economic policies pursued by the Manmohan Singh-led government.

The BJP-led NDA regime 1998-2004 not only kept inflation in check but also ensured sustained economic growth. It generated 6 million jobs as against 2.7 million by the UPA government, Rajnath said.

He justified bringing Gujarat CM Narendra Modi to the centrestage, saying: Modi was given preference as he is the seniormost chief minister and there was just one post vacant. But the performance of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been outstanding.

Rajnath strongly defended the decision to appoint Amit Shah party general secretary. Till the Gujarat riots verdict is out,we cannot pronounce anybody guilty.
