Will come out clean: Andhra DGP

Kumar, who is Chairman of Godavari Valley Development Authority,is on medical leave and could not be contacted.

Andra Pradesh DGP V Dinesh Reddy says he is ready for a CBI inquiry.

The Supreme Court ordered the probe on September 6 to ascertain ownership of 542 sale deeds pertaining to 1,500 acres of land and allegations of accumulation of assets. It was hearing a petition by IPS officer Umesh Kumar that the land belonged to Reddy.

Kumar was superseded by Reddy to the DGP post.

The DGP claimed eight of the 542 sale deeds pertaining to 7.5 acres belonged to his family and the remaining to people not connected to him.

I am confident I will come out clean, Reddy said.

Three months before Reddy was appointed DGP in June 2011,an 800-page petition with 542 sale deeds attached to it was sent to the Union Home Secretary by All-India Banjara Seva Samiti, believed to be a front used by Kumar.

Reddy said: The petition was sent to the Union Home Secretary 2-3 months before I was appointed DGP in June 2011. There was a letter purportedly written by Rajya Sabha member M A Khan against me. When the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a note to the AP Chief Secretary regarding the letter with a copy to Khan, the MP denied having written it. He also found that his signature was forged and informed MHA,which lodged a complaint at Parliament Police Station. A complaint was lodged with the CID here as well. An investigation by AP CID found Kumar had forged the signature of Khan on his letterhead.

If Kumar had made allegations that I own 7 or 10 acres,it would not have been taken seriously. He wanted to scuttle my chances of becoming the DGP,so he fabricated this petition and attached 542 sale deeds pertaining to 1,500 acres owned by various people. I believe he thought if an inquiry was ordered based on his forged letter and petition,it would scuttle my elevation, and he was next in line. But his luck ran out.
