Would a Chief Minister snatch a colleagues moment of glory? Ask Keralas Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran,a CPI nominee in the V S Achuthanandan Cabinet. Recently,Divakaran was in Delhi to receive the best big state award that a reputed national media group bestowed on Kerala. It was the state Cabinet which decided to send him to accept the award on behalf of the government. Divakaran had prepared an acceptance speech for the big moment. But as he hopped on to the stage to accept the citation. V S appeared on the television screen,thanking the organisers for selecting the state with a short pre-recorded speech. Visibly embarrassed,Divakaran could just mutter that his job had been made easier. For the CPI,it was just another confirmation that the CPM often acts like a big brother.
