A day after The Indian Express reported several ministers,MPs and officials were holding on to government houses in New Delhi despite retirement or demitting office,Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan claimed on Tuesday that he had offered to vacate his official bungalow at Race Course Road, after he resigned from the Rajya Sabha but the Centre asked him to retain it saying every state government got a place for administrative work.
He said he was not possessing the bungalow, allotted by the cabinet sub-committee on housing, illegally.
Chavan said the bungalow was being used for administrative work and to hold meetings when he is in Delhi to pursue matters related to Maharashtra.
But his political rivals in the party were quick to point out that none of his predecessors was offered a bungalow in Delhi. They all worked from Maharashtra Sadan, the state guest house that has a room reserved for the CM with staff at his service, they said.
