Taiwan shares closed 0.31 per cent higher on Monday,joining other Asian bourses to rise after US data spurred optimism over the economy,with technology exporters like TSMC gaining.
TSMC,the world’s top contract chip maker,rose 1 per cent,helping the semiconductor index to gain 0.64 per cent while the electricals index gained 3.5 per cent.
Smartphone maker HTC shed earlier gains of some 1.4 per cent to end down 0.3 per cent. Local media reported it is set to launch its first 4G models using LTE technology.
Separately,China Mobile,the world’s largest carrier by subscribers,said on Monday it would extend its cooperation with HTC to 4G mobile technology.
The main TAIEX share index closed 24.92 points higher at 8,191.54.
