The Centres austerity drive has become a favorite topic for jokes in government circles. While a lot of them do the rounds in the corridors of power,a few slip out in informal chats. At a recent press conference on an air exercise between India and Oman,a journalist stumped the Air Vice Chief with a question on how the austerity drive would affect the exercise. In a quick comeback,the top officer said there was not much scope for austerity,given that the Jaguar fighters being deployed for the exercise dont come with an economy seat.
