Eighteen senior medical students from Seth G S Medical College associated with the premier King Edward Memorial Hospital in Parel were arrested on Sunday for allegedly ragging first-year students. Ten juniors from Department of Physiotherapy complained they were made to perform shameful acts.

The anti-ragging committee of the college, after verifying the incident, handed over the 18 to the Bhoiwada police.

On the complaint of the deputy dean of the college,we registered a case of wrongful restraint and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace against them and booked them under the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act,1999, said senior police inspector Vikram Patil of the Bhoiwada police station.

A meeting headed by Mayor Shraddha Jadhav was held on Sunday at the medical college. I have ordered the college authorities to take strict action against the culprits. We will ensure that the action taken by the college does not ruin their careers, Jadhav Jadhav said.
