Song shower

Choreographer Sumit Dutt reveals how the sparks flew while filming the Desi Beat number in Bodyguard.

With a good-looking cast like Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor,a visually attractive backdrop becomes a bonus. Dance director Sumit Dutt shot Desi beat, one of the romantic numbers in Bodyguard with a dream background to bring out the happiness and enthusiasm of the actors.

Salman is going to meet his girlfriend,so to show his enthusiasm and happiness, the director conceptualised the actors striding over water and sparklers in the back, getting tough in an akhada (wrestling-pit),and prancing in front of a laser screen with colourful trucks.

“The combination of sparks flying and the water looked stunning but it was extremely difficult to create that effect. The 20 welders were stationed on high beams as they used their welding machines to create sparks which fell down like a shower on the actors. But we had to think of a way to protect everyone against the sparks. That was done with a huge transparent glass sheet placed behind the actors. Dancing on the water was tough as the ground was very slippery. Here we had to place wooden planks to prevent the actors from slipping and falling. But it was worth it as the result is there for everyone to see,” said Dutt.
