The Punjab Police claimed to have killed alleged gangster Money Prince in an encounter near Attari, close to the Amritsar border, in what they described as the second such operation against him in just over a week.
The police alleged they acted on a tip-off and laid a trap in the Attari area late Monday night. According to officers, Prince spotted the teams and opened fire with a foreign-made pistol, but bulletproof jackets protected the personnel from injury. In what the police called retaliatory firing, the gangster was neutralised at the scene.
DIG Sandeep Goyal claimed Prince faced over 50 alleged serious cases across Tarn Taran and other stations, including murders, attempted murders, NDPS Act violations, Arms Act breaches, and robberies. He stated the gangster had prior convictions in some cases and remained absconding in others.
The police alleged that just eight days earlier, on January 12, the Lopoke police injured Money Prince in an encounter. He was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar but allegedly escaped under police watch.
An FSL team arrived at the site to collect evidence and begin investigations, the police said. DIG Goyal reaffirmed the Punjab Police’s commitment to eradicating gangsterism through lawful means. He warned that strict action would follow against anyone allegedly aiding Prince’s escape.
