RSS Mookerjee meet puts J-K Govt in spot

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has been caught on the wrong foot after Jammu University allowed a RSS convention commemorating the death anniversary of Hindutva ideologue Syama Prasad Mookerjee,and to be attended by Sarsanghchalak Mohan Rao Bhagwat and BJP President Rajnath Singh,in its auditorium. The meeting seems set to snowball into a major political controversy as the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Foundation has decided to commemorate the anniversary as martyrdom day,saying Mookerjee gave his life for Kashmirs complete integration with the rest of the country.

Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Mookerjee died on June 23,1953 in the custody of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullahs government after he was arrested for violating J-Ks special status during his Ek desh mein do vidhan,do pradhan and do nishan nahi challenge A single country cant have two constitutions,two prime ministers,and two national emblems campaign. Since,Kashmirs special status and autonomy is the corner stone of ruling National Conferences political discourse,the seminar has become a card for the Opposition PDP to outsmart the NC on its autonomy plank.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni refused to comment on the issue,saying only the auditorium administrator,who was responsible for the bookings,would know about it. However,Foundation director Tarun Vijay said the aim of the programme was to remember the martyrdom of a great patriot. This programme is about patriotism8230; Several stalwarts on security issues,Pakistan and China are attending, he added.

On the agenda are a seminar on Security of the northern frontiers and national integration and a convention on Nationalism and the legacy of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee with special reference to the J-K issue. The remembrance conference on Nationalism and the legacy of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee will be attended by Bhagwat and Rajnath,signifcant as both are coming together to rediscover their core ideologyabrogation of Article 370 to ensure complete integration of Jammu Kashmir with the Indian Unionto rejuvenate the party in the post poll scenario.
