Mumbai Police’s timely intervention saved a woman who allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the sea at Marine Drive on Thursday afternoon. The woman was rescued and rushed to hospital, where she is stated to be out of danger.

The woman, a resident of Malad, had come alone to south Mumbai earlier in the day. “She seems a little upset and is not providing details properly. The woman is saying to drop her in Byculla. The policewoman has been talking to her and trying to console her,” said a police officer.

The incident took place in the afternoon after the Marine Drive police received a distress call. Police patrol vans numbers one and five immediately responded and reached the spot. “The woman was successfully rescued,” said a senior officer.

According to police, passersby alerted the police control room about a woman who had allegedly entered the sea near Garware Junction. The caller said assistance was required to pull her out of the water. Following this, two constables, Chavan and Kadam, along with Police Sub-Inspector Tadvi from mobile van number 1, rushed to the spot and brought the woman out of the water.

She was initially taken to the police station, but as she had suffered an injury to her leg, she was rushed to GT Hospital. “She is under the doctor’s observation, and women police are also there and talking to her to get the details of what was the reason that forced her to take such a drastic step,” said an IPS officer.
