Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the second day over the price rise issue with strong protests from the ruling party after BJP leader S S Ahluwalia suggested that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not interested in discussing the subject.

The House met with the BJP leaders up on their feet and demanding that the issue be discussed under Rule 167 and 168,a call supported by all opposition parties. Chairman Hamid Ansari had to adjourn the House until noon amidst slogan shouting by the Opposition.

When the House met again at noon,Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan allowed party members to discuss the admissibility of the issue under rules 167/168. BJP leader Venkiah Naidu noted that while the issue of price rise has been discussed seven times in the House, the government had given a very casual reply and hence there was need to discuss the subject afresh under the other rules.

CPMs Sitaram Yechuri agreed with Naidu. Congress P J Kurien, however, pointed out that the government was ready for discussions and the subject was already listed. Ahluwalia sparked angry protests from the treasury benches when he said the PM of this country is not interested in discussing it. Congress party members immediately demanded that Ahluwalia withdraw his remarks. Khan, however, said it was wrong to conclude so because the process of admitting the issue under other rules was still not over. The House was finally adjourned again.
