Reshuffle good news for Bahuguna

With Harish Rawats elevation as a Cabinet minister at the Centre,Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna has reasons to celebrate

With Harish Rawats elevation as a Cabinet minister at the Centre,Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna has reasons to celebrate. Rawat, who was in race for the chief ministership, has been a force to reckon with in the state Congress. His elevation has come at a time when the CM is finding it difficult to pull the strings in the wake of his son Saket Bahugunas defeat in the recent byelection to the Tehri Lok Sabha seat.

Though Rawat campaigned with Bahuguna for Saket,he had continued to sulk after losing the CM post. Soon after the results of the by-election,Rawat started indirectly targeting the Bahuguna government.

The latest was his criticism of it for starting State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited- 2. He had suggested that the state first focus on Sidicul-1.

Now,being at the helm of an important portfolio at the Centre,Rawat might not get enough time to focus on his ambition to become the chief minister before the next Lok Sabha polls. So,his elevation is a good news for the stability of the Bahuguna government which has a thin majority, a source in the Bahuguna camp said.

According to him,Rawat has a good number of supporters among the Congress MLAs. Now Bahuguna can send out the message that it is he who would call the shots in the state politics.
