Sugar futures ban likely be lifted

The government may lift the ban on trading sugar futures next month after assessing the cane crop,agriculture minister Sharad Pawar told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday. The restriction,imposed in May last year to keep prices from increasing because of a shortage,was extended in December until September 30.

PEC to import pulses

PEC has invited global bids for importing 23,000 tonne of different varieties of pulses to be delivered between September and November this year. Bids will close on August 27 and the decision on tenders will be taken on the same day,the company said. PEC would import 6,000 tonne of urad,5,000 tonne of tur,4,000 tonne each of green lentils and desi chick peas.
