Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday informed the state assembly that CPI (M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had accessed the Cabinet documents on the SNC Lavalin case as per the Right to Information Act.
The Chief Minister was replying to an adjournment motion moved by Kerala Congress (secular) member P C George who alleged the government had leaked out the Cabinet notes to Vijayan, the seventh accused in the case.
Vijayan had submitted the Cabinet documents along with his review petition in the Supreme Court last month, pleading to quash the governors sanction to prosecute him in the Lavalin scam.
The inclusion of the Cabinet notes in the party secretarys petition had kicked up a row, putting Vijayan loyalists in the ministry on the dock.
Opposition leader Oommen Chandy said the government had set in a bad precedent by revealing the Cabinet notes.
