Differing from its partner BJP on the Dantewada attack, the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United on Tuesday accused Union Home Minister P Chidambaram of pursuing a faulty anti-Naxal strategy and castigated him for his provocative language against the Maoists.
The Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party SP too came down heavily on the Home Minister. Holding him responsible for the gruesome attack,it termed it a failure of the Centre. The attack is a result of the Home Ministers tall claims. Chidambaram provoked the Naxalites. The government must be ashamed,it is a failure, SP spokesman Mohan Singh told The Indian Express.
The JDU that heads the NDA government in Bihar, which has been accused of being soft on Naxals felt that Chidambarams strategy of tackling Maoists with force was faulty and urged him to restrain his provocative language.
Inside the ruling Congress too, questions were raised on Tuesday over the governments hardline policy towards Naxals and aggressive statements. Requesting anonymity,Congress leaders said the strategy could be counterproductive.
The leaders favoured a dialogue with the Naxals, underlining they should be differentiated from terrorists. Hardline strategy works against terrorists but not against Naxals, who are our own people, a senior Congress leader remarked, reminding about a Congress Working Committee decision regarding dialogue with the outlawed outfits.
The Home Minister is using provocative language. He is sounding arrogant about dealing with Naxals. Naxalism cannot be dealt only with force. Its a socio-economic problem; it should be addressed carefully, JDUs Shivanand Tiwary said.
