The UPA government on Monday came under attack in Parliament over deportation of slain LTTE leader V Prabhakarans mother Parvathi, who is suffering from paralysis, from Chennai airport last week, with its ally DMK alleging the Tamil Nadu government was kept in the dark in this matter.

An old Tamil-speaking lady, who had come from Malaysia for treatment in Chennai was not allowed to enter Chennai and was sent back by the immigration officials. The Tamil Nadu government was kept in the dark, said DMK leader T R Baalu, raising the issue during zero hour. Why did our High Commission in Kuala Lumpur issue her a visa when the immigration officials sent her back?

When Baalu said it was the AIADMK government in 2003 that had decided not to allow that particular woman in the state,AIADMK leader M Thambidurai protested, saying you Baalu were in the Centre NDA government when the state government in 2003 had decided to ban her entry. Why did you not raise objections then?

Senior BJP leader L K Advani said the issue raised by T R Baalu is of great importance. It is a bad convention started by the government not to keep the state government in the loop over such an important issue, he added.

In the Rajya Sabha, the CPIs D Raja said this incident has sullied the idea and image of India.
