The Chandigarh Police has registered an FIR after skeletal remains of several cattle were discovered at a temporary enclosure near the fish market in Shastri Nagar, Manimajra, triggering concerns over possible neglect and mistreatment of animals.
The case was lodged on the complaint of Pawan Kumar, a resident of BDC, Sector 26, who alleged that nearly 100 cows were being kept at the site by a local individual.
According to the complainant, the animals were housed in a makeshift compound, where remains of multiple cows were later found.
Police said the discovery raised serious questions about the conditions in which the cattle were being kept and whether negligence or cruelty led to their deaths.
Following the complaint, a police team reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection.
According to police, the area was examined, and initial evidence was collected from the site.
Police said the matter is being probed from all angles to ascertain the circumstances under which the cattle died.
Police said that no arrests have been made so far. The exact cause of death would be ascertained after a thorough investigation.
Police added that veterinary experts might also be consulted to determine whether the animals died due to illness, starvation, or any other form of neglect.
