The earthquake did not have any impact on the nuclear reactors in the country. The two nearest nuclear stations at Narora in Uttar Pradesh and Rawatbhata in Rajasthan were functioning normally. At the time of incident of earthquake both the units at the Narora plant and Unit 2,3,5 and 6 at Rawatbhata continued to operate safely and there is no effect of the earthquake, an official of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India said. After the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March this year caused a nuclear accident at the Fukushima site,there has been a heightened interest in the safety of nuclear power plants in India in the event of natural disasters like earthquakes or floods.
