While the selection process has begun for the CBSE top job for the third time in a year, the National Council for Education,Research and Training NCERT will have to wait before it gets a new head. It is learnt that while NCERT Director Krishna Kumars term ends September 4 this year,he is set to get an extension for a couple of months.
Krishna Kumar Director since September 2004 will remain Director NCERT most likely till December this year or so. The selection process for a new NCERT head will start soon, official sources said.
The NCERT top job is much coveted for and critical in the current scenario with new Human Resource Development HRD Minister Kapil Sibal keen on school reforms based on the National Curriculum Framework NCF,charted out by the NCERT under Kumar. The ministry, however, did not wish to hurry through the selection process and so has chosen instead to allow Krishna Kumar an extension by a few months.
As per procedure, the selection process to fill a vaccancy starts at least six months in advance. Kumars term ends in September,so the selection process for his successor should ideally have begun in April. Since it was not so,it was late by the time Sibal took over. Hence the extension for Kumar, an official said.
