NDA PM issue not settled yet, hints RSS

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been declared the BJPs chief campaigner.

Asserting that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has only been declared the BJPs chief campaigner and surely not its prime ministerial candidate, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh RSS has said that the arm-twisting by BJP alliance partner JDU on flimsy grounds was not good for the country.

The BJP so far has only declared Modi as chairman of a forum and surely not a prime ministerial candidate, an editorial in the latest issue of RSS mouthpiece Organiser said.

It said that there is sufficient time to declare a prime ministerial candidate and the decision will naturally be taken at an appropriate time after consultation with all parties concerned.

Undisputedly, the question of declaring prime ministerial candidate does not arise at this moment,as the polls have not yet been declared, the editorial said in an apparent attempt to run down the JDUs raking up of the issue after Modis projection as BJPs chief campaigner.

It took a grim view of the JDUs flexing of muscle against the BJP on the issue of prime ministerial candidature and warned the JDU that parting from the NDA on such a flimsy ground will not be tolerated by Bihars electorate.

In this situation, the arm-twisting by the JDU is not good for the country. The Bihar government has been doing a good job and there is good coordination between both the parties for the past 17 years. If this alliance is broken on flimsy grounds, the country and Bihar in particular will never excuse the defaulters, the editorial said.

The Organiser editorial stressed the need to maintain unity of the NDA to facilitate the ouster of Congress-led UPA.

The basic aspiration of the country at this moment is that they dont want the UPA at all. But for ousting the UPA,the NDA will have to remain and act united, the editorial said.

It referred to recent opinion surveys carried out by the media agencies to point out that if the NDA remains united and works as a formidable force,it can easily get back power at the Centre.

The editorial also used the findings of these surveys to claim that Modi has the potential to lead the nation.

All segments of society perceived Narendra Modi as the most suitable person who can lead the nation on the path of progress and prosperity, the editorial said, referring to recent opinion polls that suggested declining political stock of the ruling UPA at the end of its four years of rule since retaining power in 2009.

The RSS mouthpiece,in fact, sought to draw parallels between the popularity of A B Vajpayee till 2012 and the rising popularity of Modi as projected by recent media surveys.
