MP teen raped,killed; 2 arrested

A teenagers alleged rape and murder sparked angry reactions in Bhopal on Monday as a mob set afire a garage belonging to the accused,damaged vehicles,and blocked traffic. The police arrested two persons,including garage owner Mustafa with whom 16-year-old Kavita Singh,the daughter of a GRP constable,was last seen on Friday.

Mustafa,a car mechanic,runs a garage near the GRP colony,and had allegedly kidnapped Kavita on Friday afternoon. Kavitas body was found in an isolated place near Budhni in Sehore district,about 70 km from Bhopal,on Saturday morning,but her family and the police were not aware of it. The victim was found in her undergarments with injury marks around the neck. Inspector of Budhni Police Station Lalit Dagur said the post mortem report did not rule out the possibility of rape.

ASP Rajesh Chandel said that Kavita had been killed on the same day and Mustafa,along with an accomplice,disposed of the body in Budhni.

When the identities of the victim and the accused were established on Monday,an angry crowd went berserk indulging in arson. Led by the Shiv Sena,the mob blocked traffic near the BJP headquarters.

The accused and the victims family hail from Bihar and know each other.
