Monarchy may come back, says Nepal V-P

Jha said there was very little hope that the constitution would be drafted by May 27

Vice-President Paramananda Jha Monday warned political parties that a failure to complete the new constitution by a May 27 deadline may help revive monarchy in the country.

Speaking at a programme in the capital,Jha said the failure on the part of political parties to complete the assigned job could lead to many possibilities. Highlighting one such outcome,he said if the people want, monarchy will return at the helm. And we all must accept that.

Incidentally, his statement came on a day when former King Gyanendra returned to the capital from west Nepal where he got an enthusiastic welcome. In many places, the king was greeted with chants such as you must come and save the country.

Jha said there was very little hope that the constitution would be drafted by May 27. Finding fault with major parties,he said,Only 10 leaders of three major political parties were responsible for the progress or lack of it in drafting the constitution. He said there was no point blaming all 601 members of the constituent assembly. Where is their role? Instead, the top leaders must step down.
