After the recent 13-day strike by workers at its Manesar plant,Maruti on Thursday again faced a two-hour tool-down protest at the plant following a tiff between workers and a company supervisor on Wednesday. The protest resulted in production loss of about 50 units to the carmaker.
The company management has sent notice of suspension to four of its workers for allegedly roughing up the supervisor. However, workers deny any such brawl and claim that the company is using pressure tactics to down their voices.
Following the suspension, workers observed a two-hour tools down as a sign of protest.
A company official said,One of the supervisors was assaulted by workers yesterday and when disciplinary action was being taken today by way of suspension, they have struck work at the plant. The number of workers on strike are much less this time.
Workers say that they were are being victimised as they had gone ahead and formed a new union much to the dislike of the company. Officials want to sack all workers who are involved in this formation of new union. But we will fight for our causes, said Arvind Kumar, organising secretary of the new union.
