Mamata yet to take state security

Says no to CMs convoy including bulletproof car, pilot vehicle

My feet got stamped while I was entering Writers Buildings. I had to take a crocin tablet to reduce the pain. The police could not manage the crowd at the gate and it was a security breach the light reprimand came from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, when she met senior Kolkata police officials Friday night, her first day in office.

A day after she assumed charge as the Chief Minister, top policemen are jittery about the final shape of what is going to be the VVIPs security set-up.

Mamata is yet to accept the security arrangements made for her by the state security agencies. On Saturday, she refused to take the bulletproof car sent for her by the state security directorate and travelled in her favourite black Santro.

Despite the Chief Ministers convoy being posted in front of her Kalighat residence,Mamata travelled in her own car while the empty convoy followed her up to Writers.

A K Maliwal,Director,Security said,The CM did not travel in the bulletproof car yesterday and today also she travelled in her own car. Our job is to provide security to our CM and we are doing it meticulously. The state home department will soon hold a meeting to finalise her security.

However,Mamata has categorically said that she will not have a pilot car while moving as she does not want to be isolated from the people.

At present, her security is being looked after by the Railway Police Force. At least 16 RPF commandos are assigned for the job.
