S-I in CMs security killed by son
BANGALORE: A Sub-Inspector attached to the Chief Ministers security division was allegedly stabbed to death by his son,police said Saturday. Police said Veerabhadraiah,57,had recently moved out of the quarters and was staying in a rented room near Navrang theatre,as he was tired of frequent quarrels with his son over a property dispute. On Friday,his son barged into the room and allegedly stabbed him.
Spurious liquor claims 7 in Bihar
SAMASTIPUR: Seven persons died and 10 fell sick here after consuming spurious liquor,police said Saturday. Several villagers consumed the liquor,after which four women died Friday night at Kashipur in Sadar area. Three persons breathed their last at a government hospital. The district authorities have ordered a probe.
Kalmadi aide sent in 14-day custody
New DelhI: Shekhar M Deorukhkar,a close aide of former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi,was sent in 14-day judicial custody on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore overlays scam related to the sporting event. The court also extended the judicial custody of Binu Nanu,managing director of event management firms Meroform India Pvt Ltd and G L Events Pvt Ltd,till March 5.
HC begins process for Tiwari DNA test
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Saturday issued a notice to Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular Microbiology for initiating the procedure of DNA test on veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari in connection with a paternity suit filed. Seeking a response from the centre over the procedures involved,the court posted the matter for March 8 to take a decision on fixing the date for the DNA test. The court had in December last year asked the 86-year-old leader to undergo a DNA test in the paternity suit filed by Rohit Shekhar,31,who claims to be his son born out of the leaders alleged relationship with his mother Ujjwala Sharma.
Sweeper,gateman inaugurate trains
HOWRAH WB: In an unusual step,the Railways on Saturday asked an old sweeper and a gateman to inaugurate express trains at the Howrah station. Bala Devi,a sweeper at the Santraganchi railway station,and Nimai Chandra Bera,a gateman at the Goraghanta station,inaugurated two weekly superfast express trains Howrah to Prasanthi Nilayam and Howrah to Shirdi respectively. The duo will retire on February 28.
