Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey is a period film based on journalist Manini Chatterjee8217;s book Do And Die: The Chittagong Uprising: 1930-34.
Filmed in Sawantwadi,Goa and Mumbai, the film brings a forgotten chapter in Indian history alive.
On 18 April 1930,at around ten at night,a group of menmost of them still in their teens inspired by the famous Easter Uprising in Dublin 1916,challenged the might of the British Empire through a series of raids in Chittagong. They attacked the armouries of the police and the Auxiliary Force in Chittagong and their actions stunned the colonial rulers and ignited the spark of rebellion throughout undivided Bengal.
Director Ashutosh Gowariker says: The experience of working on the film has been fascinating, exciting and unique. The film needed a distinct sound, keeping in mind the period it is based on,the 1930s. To add to that,as the film is a thriller, the soundtrack needed to be patriotic and epic in its composition, but at the same time,it needed to have a contemporary appeal. Sohail Sen has successfully achieved that.
The Buzz:
For a couple of months,a 300-year-old royal palace at Sawantwadi,in southern Maharashtra, was transformed into a set. It was art director,Nitin Desai, who chose the ancient palace as it provided the perfect setting for the period film.
