The reconstitution of Kerala unit of the Congress, postponed several times for want of consensus among leaders,is likely to take place next week.

Sources said the exercise will see distribution of state and district party posts between groups led by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the partys state chief Ramesh Chennithala. Ministers, legislators and MPs would be excluded from the new panel.

Ahead of the reorganisation,a section in the party has demanded that Chennithala quit and join the Chandy Cabinet. Heading this campaign is Congress spokesperson P C Chacko. Some days ago,he had told the media that Chennithala was indulging in factionalism and hence, should quit. Both Chennithala and Chandy have refused to react to Chacos demand. Sources said Chackos demand could be a pressure tactic to get his nominee appointed the president of the partys district unit in Thrissur, his home turf.
