Jhumpa Lahiri makes Booker Prize shortlist

Indian-American author Jhumpa Lahiris new novel,The Lowland,has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize this year.

The book,that follows the story of two brothers set in Kolkata of the 1960s,will compete alongside five other works of fiction for the coveted literary award,the winner of which,will be announced next month.

Lahiri was born in London to Indian immigrants from West Bengal. The 46-year-old currently lives in New York.

She has previously won the Pulitzer prize in 2000 for her collection of short stories,Interpreter of Maladies 1999 and her first novel,The Namesake,was adapted into a movie by filmmaker Mira Nair.
