Jamnagar palace theft: five arrested

The Surendranagar Local Crime Branch and Rajkot Rapid Response cell on Monday arrested five members of the local Devipujak gang and recovered items stolen from the Jam Bungalow,the residence of the erstwhile Jamnagar royal family,from them.

The items recovered include four precious gems,an antique pearl necklace,two gold chains,seven gold rings,a carpet woven with gold and silver threads,23 silver items and Rs 5 lakh cash.

The accused were identified as Sanjay Devipujak,21,Ashok Devipujak,18,Deepak Devipujak,21,Vijay Ramu,20,Mukesh Devipujak,22. All the accused are natives of Porbandar district.

Police believe the accused have little idea about the antique value of the items. They are now trying to ascertain the total value of the theft.

The gang sold some of the stolen items in Ahmedabad,Surendranagar and other places,police said.

In the past eight months,the accused had entered the palace around 25 times, said IG Manoj Shashidhar.
