The Division Bench of Madras High Court has decided to review the autopsy video of Dalit youth Ilavarasan 20 with the help of forensic experts on Tuesday morning. The court will only then decide on plea for a second post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced a judicial probe by retired HC judge S R Singaravelu into the death of the youth. Ilavarasans marriage with an upper caste girl is being cited as reason for the recent clashes between Vanniyar-led caste Hindus and the Dalits.
On Monday, the counsel of A Ramesh,Ilavarasans friend, sought a second autopsy in the presence of forensic experts chosen by the family. In such a sensitive case, clearing suspicions of murder is upon the state, which stands to lose nothing by conducting a re-examination, senior advocate N G R Prasad told the court. The public prosecutor opposed the plea.
However, the court said that a second autopsy was an exception and decided to watch the video of post-mortem done at Dharmapuri hospital. The court will be assisted by a neutral forensic expert from Centre-run Jipmer,Puducherry.
A forensic expert from the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital,Chennai, will represent the state government, while Dr V Dekal,a former assistant professor of forensic medicine, has been recommended by the family. Dekal had resigned two years ago, right after the autopsy of A M Sadhick Batcha,an alleged conduit of 2G scam money who hung himself.
