Three days after the seven-year-old daughter of a jobless diamond polisher went missing from her residence,her body was found in the lavatory of a municipal school in Bapunagar on Wednesday.
The body had several injury marks and the police suspected that the girl may have been raped before being murdered. She was lying in a semi-naked state on the lavatory floor. Post mortem and forensic reports were awaited.
The door of the lavatory was bolted from outside. The school sweeper opened the door and found the body, said Bapunagar police inspector L P Gandhe.
A complaint of murder and rape has been registered with the Bapunagar police.
Gandhe said the police were on the lookout for the killer,who they suspected may be known to the girls family. We are looking for someone who may have seen the victim with the accused that day, the police officer added.
The victim,a student of Shreeji Vidyalaya in Bapunagar,lived with her parents at Marwadi Ni Chali. The girl8217;s father,Bhumaji Marwadi,was earlier employed in a diamond polishing unit.
