Deols digital debut

The Jat family has ventured into digital space and created a website and YouTube channel for fans.

Prompted by the success of Yamla Pagla Deewana,which featured the Deol troika poking fun at their on-screen image and having seen the dividends sowed by marketing,the Jat family has ventured into the digital space and created an official website and YouTube channel for fans to congregate and savour the exploits of their favourite Deol. We the Deols have become more aggressive about the marketing of our films ever since we realised its importance during Yamla Pagla Deewana. So we decided to start a website,primarily to connect to our fans all over the country and the world,since thats the fastest and best way of doing it, Sunny Deol told Screen.

At the moment,the family has posted video links introducing and welcoming their fans to their YouTube channel. We will slowly try and fill our official sites with content about ourselves and our films, Sunny revealed.

While his sons seem comfortable with the new medium,Dharmendra,in the longest and most candid video blog on YouTube,talks about how the relationship between fans and stars has evolved over the years. He admits that while earlier there was an aura of mystery around the stars,today actors have to go all out to talk about themselves and promote their films. He candidly confesses,Its all about showing off now, and adds,The Deols are very shy people but our fans now want to learn more about us like what we eat,what we talk about. Its a little uncomfortable for me but I can assure you that the more I talk,the more you will love me.

Apart from video blogs by sons Sunny and Bobby,the site also features a few trailers from their earlier movies like 23 March 1931 Shaheed,Indian,Chamku and even Abhay Deols debut film Socha Na Tha as well a trailer of Sunnys forthcoming movie Ghayal Returns.

Sunny said that there will be information about all the films that the family has worked on over the years. Apart from this,there will also be songs and some merchandise on our website soon. Our banner Vijayta Films will also get a digital presence and we have already hired a separate company to work on the site. They will decide what kind of information needs to be added,for example,starting a blog etc.

The Deols have gone in for a low-key approach and seem happy with the number of users they have had so far. As Sunny says,There was no official launch because if we waited for that,it would take a lot of time to coordinate our schedules. We also feel that since more features will be added on the website over a period of time,we will go with the flow. Our target audience comprises our fans and well-wishers who want to interact with us. They can learn more about our films and we can get their opinion.
