With the upcoming Lok Sabha elections promising to be a tough one,the CPIM has found an innovative campaign method: it is now trying to woo voters through audio CDs based on music therapy.
In what seems to be influenced by US President Barack Obamas fundraiser album Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement, the CPIM is using music therapy in its latest album,70,000 copies of which are being distributed free among party workers in rural Bengal for campaigning.
What makes the latest music album different from other CDs so far released by the CPIM is the use of therapeutic music. All the songs, interspersed with narrations, have been recorded with utmost care to give a hammering and soothing effect which is characteristic of music therapy while not being unduly emphasising, said Pranay Dutta,a specialist in music therapy who composed the lyrics and music for the album.
From reaching out to minorities to warning voters against making the wrong choice, the songs highlight issues of land acquisition, opposition to industrialisation as they are detrimental to development,Tata Motors pulling out of the Singur project etc.
The CD will be used from April 15 in places where the party goes for campaigning.
