Changing with times

Earlier cabaret numbers had memorable music and lyrics unlike the contemporary item numbers that use only cheap words and have no shaayari at all.

This is with reference to the editorial Feminine logic in Screen, dated December 10. There were cabarets, seductive dances etc in the past in Bollywood movies. But nowadays they are known as item numbers. Earlier vamps were offered such dance and song sequences, but today even successful heroines perform them as they get crores of rupees. The latest examples are Katrina Kaifs Sheila ki jawaani and Malaika Arora-Khans Munni badnaam hui. Such item numbers have too much of skin-show,latkas and jhatkas, swaying hips and bosom thrusts to attract viewers.

Earlier cabaret numbers had memorable music and lyrics unlike the contemporary item numbers that use only cheap words and have no shaayari at all.

Even sex was presented aesthetically earlier but now theres nothing left to the imagination. Filmmakers claim such scenes are included only on the demand of cinegoers but thats not true,as no cinema lover can remember anything good out of the present movies .

Now we have remix versions of yesteryear songs. But these are nothing but cheap gimmicks.

They have no originality in terms of music, lyrics or acting. It is a total waste of time and money to shoot such scenes/ songs. In order to be successful,a film should have original ideas.
