No consensus on new Nepal PM

KATHMANDU: Political parties in Nepal failed to reach a consensus on who the new Prime Minister should be on Saturday. Most parties stuck to their conditions in favour or against candidates fielded for the post. Four top leaders of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists UCPN-M led by chairman Prachanda consulted top leaders of three different other parties soliciting their support in his favour. However,the Madheshis said that they would support a candidate who will concede to their demand for a One Madhesh-One Pradesh formula.

220 killed in Congo tanker explosion

KINSHASA: A fuel tanker flipped over and exploded into flames in eastern Congo overnight,killing at least 220 villagers and wounding more than 100 many of whom had rushed to siphon leaking liquid from the vehicle illegally,the UN and local officials said on Saturday. The truck was transporting fuel when it overturned at high speed late on Friday near Sange,30 km from Uvira near the Burundi border.

Russian spy has fled island,says Cyprus

Nicosia: Cyprus Justice Minister Loucas Louca said on Friday that he believes a fugitive who is alleged to be a Russian spy has fled the island nation. Louca said in an interview that it is unlikely that 54-year-old Christopher Metsos will be caught in Cyprus because he is no longer on the eastern Mediterranean island.

Kathmandu: Nepals 15-year old Kumari has created history becoming the first living goddess to pass the school-leaving examination,that too with flying colours. Chanindra Bajracharya had appeared for the SLC examination in her sacred chamber with special arrangements.

Biden arrives in Iraq amid political impasse

Baghdad: US Vice-President Joe Biden landed on Saturday on what appeared to be a dual mission in Baghdad to visit US troops during the July Fourth weekend and coax Iraqi leaders into ending their government impasse. Bidens trip may signal the US is stepping up its efforts to hammer out an agreement among Iraqi political rivals and get a new government in place as soon as possible.
