NEW DELHI: Indian Newspaper Society INS on Thursday condemned CPIM-backed CITU activists obstructing the distribution of Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi dailies in Kerala,terming it as intimidation of free press.

Industrial project at Nayachar

KOLKATA: The state government on Thursday signed an agreement with NRI businessman Prasoon Mukherjees Universal Success Ltd to develop an industrial project in Nayachar in East Midnapore district. The project,involving an investment of Rs 26,000 crore,will be set up on 11,000 acres.

NBA asks PM to restrain Katju

NEW DELHI: Opposing any move to set up a Media Council to regulate media,the News Broadcasters Association has taken strong objection to the comments by new Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju and asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to restrain him. Katjus emphasis was on how the media should be reined in and in particular the electronic media,even though the electronic media is statutorily beyond the remit of the PCI, the NBA complained to Singh.

CWG: CBI submits more proof

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Thursday submitted additional documentary evidence and witness statements to a Delhi court in connection with a corruption case involving sacked Commonwealth Games organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. The prosecution said it had mentioned in the chargesheet filed on May 20 that further investigation was on in the case to unearth a bigger conspiracy and,if required,it would file a supplementary chargesheet.

12 Kolkata students held in Jhargram

KOLKATA: Twelve students of Jadavpur University and other colleges of Kolkata were on Thursday arrested by the joint forces from Nandalalpur village in Jhargram in West Midnapore district of West Bengal. The students belonging the United Students Democratic Front USDF and Jharkhand Students Federation JSF were later released after interrogation and verification as the police could not frame charges against them.

Bhanwari case: CBI quizzes MLAs sister

JODHPUR: The CBI team probing into the disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi on Thursday questioned Congress MLA Malkhan Singhs sister here in connection with the case,officials said. It is believed that Indira Devi had intervened to resolve the matter between her brother,an accused in the case,and Bhanwari after the two allegedly engaged in heated arguments a few months back,they said.
